Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm has become one of the most popular rural attractions in the UK, drawing fans from all over the world thanks to the hit Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm. From the moment the show aired, viewers were hooked on Clarkson’s chaotic journey into farming, and many have since made it a personal mission to visit the farm shop and dine at The Farmer’s Dog, the newly opened pub on the premises.

But while the allure of visiting Clarkson’s farm is strong, actually getting inside either venue is far from easy. Long queues, limited reservations, and overwhelming demand have turned a simple countryside trip into a logistical challenge — especially for those hoping to experience both the farm shop and the pub in a single visit.

One determined fan, however, seems to have cracked the code — and their strategy might just be the golden ticket for fellow fans looking to avoid disappointment.

Posting in the r/ClarksonsFarm Reddit forum, the fan shared their month-long struggle to land a table at The Farmer’s Dog, saying they had tried repeatedly to book a reservation without success.

“I’ve been trying for a month to get a reservation at The Farmer’s Dog,” they wrote. “That’s not working. My plan is to take a train from Paddington early to Oxford, get the rental car, then queue at the pub with our fingers crossed that we get in. We’re happy to just eat at the tents if we don’t get in.”

Not willing to give up on their dream of enjoying a meal at Clarkson’s countryside pub, the fan went on to outline their full travel itinerary. After arriving early in Oxford, they planned to drive straight to The Farmer’s Dog and attempt to secure a spot, even if it meant settling for food from the tents outside. Then, they would stay overnight and visit the Diddly Squat Farm Shop early the next morning — around 8 or 9 a.m. — to beat the rush and avoid the famously long queues. Finally, they’d return the rental car in Oxford and head back to London via GWR.

Their plan was met with encouragement and some useful advice from locals and seasoned visitors. One local supporter shared a clever workaround for the booking nightmare: skip the pub’s interior altogether and head straight to the outdoor seating area, which offers just as much charm — and the same quality food — without the wait.

“The Farmer’s Dog has the Grand Tour marquee on site,” the commenter explained, referring to the large tent setup that includes shops, a bar, and food wagons. “If you can’t get a table in the pub, you can still get drinks there and food from the food wagon. I’m local and that’s what we do when we visit.”

The commenter went on to say that the outdoor garden seating is one of the hidden gems of the experience. “The garden is lovely and has great views, so I’d rather do that than spend hours queuing for the pub. People visit from all over the world and the UK, so it’s nice to chat with other fans in the beer garden.”

Indeed, many Clarkson’s Farm fans have found that the pub’s outdoor setting is part of the charm. With scenic views of the Cotswolds and a lively atmosphere filled with fellow fans of the show, it’s no surprise that some regulars prefer it to the formal dining area inside the pub.

But the overwhelming success of the site hasn’t come without growing pains. In a recent interview, Jeremy Clarkson himself addressed a range of issues plaguing The Farmer’s Dog — including water pressure problems and what he describes as unreasonable demands from regulators.

“They want [a change] made to our Rational steam ovens,” Clarkson said, referencing his kitchen’s cooking equipment. “According to our plumber, that would be impossible.”

He didn’t hold back his frustration. “This is exactly the sort of corporate bullying that pubs really don’t need right now.”

Clarkson also revealed that the pub receives little more than a “dribble” of water at times — a problem that he says must be solved, but one that isn’t easily fixed in a remote location like Chadlington.

Despite these setbacks, it’s clear that the appeal of visiting Diddly Squat Farm remains strong. Whether it’s for a chance to buy Hawkstone beer, grab a selfie with a cow featured on the show, or sample the food that fans rave about, thousands of visitors continue to make the journey — and some, like this savvy Reddit user, are proving that with a bit of planning and flexibility, it’s possible to enjoy the experience without spending the whole day stuck in a queue.

For now, fans are advised to keep their expectations in check, bring a good sense of humor, and maybe a foldable chair — just in case.
